Yvon Chouinard Gives Away Patagonia To Fight Climate Change

“Hopefully this will influence a new form of capitalism that doesn’t end up with a few rich people and a bunch of poor people,” Mr. Chouinard, 83, said in an exclusive interview. “We are going to give away the maximum amount of money to people who are actively working on saving this planet.” - Yvon Chouinard

Earth is now Patagonia’s only shareholder.

Almost 50 years after founding Patagonia, the man who demanded to let his people go surfing, managed to make people like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and even Elon Mush look like complete assholes in one of the raddest sales corporate history. Yvon Chouinard signed his company to a specially designed trust and a nonprofit organization to combat climate change and protect undeveloped land around the globe.

FUCK YEAH SIR!

So instead of selling his company or taking it public so that he could kick back in his golden years with more money to piss on that god, Yvon Chouinard gave his company back to the planet that helped create Patagonia to become one of the outdoor industry powerhouses that it is. Patagonia is valued at about $3 billion and in this move some $100 million a year will be are used to combat climate change and protect undeveloped land from being gobbled up by bullshit.

Admittedly I have been rather harsh on “Patagucci” for some of its practices, BUT this just made me want to hop in my car, head down to the Reno Outlet and turn into a waling billboard for this man…then again. And yes, of course my pessimism brims with odes of thinking this was one of the most powerful anti-establishment, establishing moves ever. However, fuck my pessimism. Even if it is a marketing move, that’s $100 FUCKING million a year for our planet bitch! Big shouts out to Mr. Chuoinard on this shit.
